The 2023 Annual Convention & Big Game Awards Banquet was held March 31-April 1st in Casper. We had another fun and successful convention and we owe it all to our members, guests and sponsors for your continued support for this event. Pictures from this event are on the WYOGA website and Facebook page.  During the general membership meeting, we held Election of Officer’s. Your new 2023-2024 WYOGA Board of Directors are listed below.  Thank you for your continued support for WYOGA. Please mark your calendar to attend the convention next year, April 4-6, 2024 at the Ramkota, Casper.

The publication committee will begin working on the 2023 Wyoming Outdoors in May. Media kits with all the information for advertising will be emailed to you. At the general membership meeting on March 31st, it was decided that we need a 5% increase for display ads to cover all expenses incurred for this project. The cost of paper and postage has increased slightly from last year so in order to cover our expenses, we needed to increase. The Wyoming Outdoors is one of WYOGA’s main fundraisers for WYOGA and those members that are currently advertiser know the benefits of advertising. Our circulation is 100,000 copies.

The Wyoming legislature has moved into the interim process of preparing legislation for the upcoming 2024 session and reviewing outstanding issues from the 2023 session.  WYOGA will be focused on the Joint Travel, Recreation and Wildlife Committee (TRW) as well as the Joint Revenue Committee over the interim.

TRW has scheduled the following meetings:

• June 12th and 13th in Casper
• August 10th and 11th in Evanston
• October 4th and 5th in Cheyenne

TRW’s top priority for the interim is regulation of commercial fishing guides.  Below is their directive.

Priority #: 1 Commercial Fishing Outfitters and Guides. The Committee will study the regulations and permitting requirements for commercial fishing outfitters and guides.

WYOGA will be heavily involved in the process and gained good insight into our membership’s thoughts during the spring meeting in Casper.  If you were not in attendance but guide fishing as part of your business, please reach out with your thoughts and concerns.  We will have the opportunity to shape the committee’s outcome by being involved in the process.

Thank you!

Bill Novotny, Lobbyist
